My Poem: Tuesday's Medication

Derived from a poem by George Kalamaras

I long for the candle’s chance,
the work to be done

Tuesday evening approaches
these galleries of silence

Or that silence between breaths,
the pause of a footfall

My breathing suspends,
now I sit quietly and wait

the breath of the heart’s ear
There are no easy sounds

on a Tuesday, sitting
pondering on fate alone

Tuesday, it is Tuesday,
whatever will happen on this day

I long for a blinking moment,
Freedom coming and gone

Quickly and swiftly,
murmuring as I fall

Walking along these corridors
all in all the same

cold stares gazing
blatantly on this Tuesday

It’s now my friend
this evening has come

A smile for you
and a gift from me

However blessed it be
to have you share this day with me
