My Poem: Broken Glass

© 2009 Hachiko Yukimora

Despise the reflection
Whether it be frontal of calm waters
Make ripples with a single touch
Or with a drop of small pebbles
Pick up a dainty leaf
Drop it into the water
Watch the ripples
As if life itself were shown before you
Drifting outward
Away far from your grasp

Drive into the once quiet stream
Above your head
All around is dark
Filling up your lungs
Grasping for breath
Life is not the same here
There is no time
Wave your arms
Wear yourself out
Faster and faster

And gone.
A steady heartbeat tells a different tale
An accidental falling for this young child
Safe haven yet no longer
A fist bloody
Perfect shards in perfect pieces
All is to be seen
Trapped souls within a broken mirror
Splatter across the ground
And grief fills the air once more
