First Day.

I started my day at 7 A.M. this morning; (I am currently typing this at 11:34 P.M.) I say this because my alarm woke me up at 6 A.M., but of course I thought it was way too early to be up since the school that I am currently working at is about a six minute drive from my house. With that mindset, I decided that I would snooze for another half hour. But of course, my alarm doesn't go off like it was supposed to. The plan was this: I tucked my alarm under my pillow, thinking that I would be blasted awake by the rude sound. However, I woke up around 7 A.M., bewildered because it seemed as if I slept for way too long. Of course I did! Because evidently the way that it USUALLY happens is that one would be fully rested at the time when you really should be panicking! Why? Because right now, that was how I really felt about the time that I woke up. So, I had to do my morning duty: go to the bathroom (because we all have that human natural instinct to visit the porcelain God upon our real awakening), brush my teeth, straighten my hair with the hot iron, get dressed in my "professional" clothing, gather my school items, pack my lunch in the kitchen, and run speeding out the door at approximately 7:40 A.M. I was late by only a few minutes TO the classroom. But thankfully, I was technically in the building by 7:48 A.M. The students don't arrive in the classroom till 8 A.M.

Nevertheless, it was a rather interesting day. I took vigorous notes on what the classroom set-up was like as well as the temperament of each "class." All of them have their own kind of personality, which was quite agreeable with me. That merely means I have more choices to choose from. I am quite thankful that I do not have to choose among dull, monotonous classes.

I already know that I will be teaching a full unit of/about the play Julius Caesar. I am just unsure on how to start and end it. Hopefully, I will have a better idea as I do a bit of research and reading up on the play itself while I keep in mind, the academic standards.

A few incidents that happened today... I met a very random, odd... boy that appears to also be a sort of teacher's pet. I had an awkward conversation with a girl that went similar to this:

Girl: "I don't mean to be rude, but you look Asian."
Me: "Yes. I am Asian."
Girl: "What kind are you?"
Me: "Chinese."
Girl: "Oh. Well I'm Korean. Sorry, but I didn't mean to be rude. A lot of people would look at me and be like Ohmygosh are you Asian?"
Me: "Oh, it's okay. I get it all the time. Race doesn't even occur to me; you are what you are..."

The thing is. It really didn't even occur to me that she was of Asian-descent. Hm. I wonder what that says about me?

I had another encounter during one of my later observations:

Girl: "Excuse me! But do you speak English?"
Me: "...Yes. I speak English."
Instructor (my cooperating teacher): "This is Miss so-and-so. She is a University methods student, a.k.a. a student teacher that will be with us for a while."
Another girl: "Yeah (addressing previous girl), she's a student teacher, so she speaks English!"

A comical moment, I thought.

As for the book I am currently reading. I'm not sure if I have mentioned this or not, but I am currently halfway through The Juvie Three, by Gordon Korman. My cooperating teacher actually caught me in the middle of reading this novel shortly after we had lunch together with three other teachers in the lounge; I found out that she is reading Still Alice, by Lisa Genova. I believe I have heard the title before. She described a bit of it to me which then I discovered and decided that it sounded so interesting that I may pick it up sometime (which then adds it to my reading list)!

Which reminds me, I'll have to put my book list up on this blog sometime!
